PARC ASTÉRIX & HOTEL LA CITÉ SUSPENDUE

Visit date :  SEPTEMBER 22-23, 2026

For our September 2026 visit to Parc Astérix, we decided to spend the night at La Cité Suspendue, one of the 3 hotels currently operated by the destination (soon 4 hotels). The visit took place during the quieter inter-season period, with relatively low wait times & temperatures above 25°C.
It was also an interesting moment to visit the park from a development perspective: several major projects were already visible across the resort, while Halloween preparations were beginning to take shape!

HOTEL La Cité Suspendue

We arrived at the resort on Tuesday evening, September 22, at around 6:00 PM. The park itself was closed that day, so we headed directly to La Cité Suspendue Hotel for check-in.
The reception is where you collect your room card & receive all the practical information needed for your stay, including breakfast arrangements & the hotel’s facilities.
The reception is open 24 hours a day, with check-in available from 5:00 PM.

➡️ For information, Parc Astérix owns 3 hotels in 2026 (Les Trois Hiboux / La Cité Suspendue / Les Quais de Lutèce). But a fourth hotel, L’Odyssée Hôtel, was under construction during our visit & is scheduled to open in spring 2027.
(The new hotel will add around 300 rooms to the resort’s hotel offering & will be themed around the oriental journeys of Astérix & Obélix).

Parking & electric vehicles

One particularly useful feature for electric-car owners : Charging your electric vehicle at the hotel parking area is free. The hotel has its own private parking, directly in front of the property. This was particularly convenient for us and is definitely worth knowing before your arrival. The parking is also included as one of the benefits of staying at one of the Parc Astérix hotels.

PRE-ARRIVAL BOOKINGS

A few days or weeks before arrival, hotel guests receive emails inviting them to select their preferred breakfast time slot. These reservations are important because breakfast operates through scheduled sittings. The good news is that your chosen time can still be changed directly at reception when you arrive.
➡️ We also paid for Filotomatix passes… as it turns out, this was a mistake. Find out why below!

Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with the last available slot at 9:30 AM according to the hotel’s current practical information.

HOTEL ROOM

The entire hotel is built around the concept of a forgotten Celtic settlement hidden within the forest. Rather than one large hotel building, the rooms are spread across several structures built on stilts, creating a small village atmosphere.
We were staying in the Potters’ area, in room 1105. The hotel itself is divided into three themed hamlets:

  • 🏺 The Potters
  • 🎨 The Artists
  • 🌿 The Druids

Getting to the room is part of the experience. There is no traditional indoor hotel corridor or elevator serving the building we stayed in. Instead, we walked outside, climbed the stairs leading to our building and arrived directly at the entrance to our room. The room itself was one of the highlights of our stay.
It is beautifully themed without feeling overwhelming, and the layout is particularly practical.
➡️ Our room featured:

  • a large double bed
  • a separate sleeping area with bunk beds
  • a bathroom with a walk-in shower
  • separate toilets
  • plenty of storage space
  • a television & FREE Wifi
  • a balcony with table a chairs

The official hotel describes its standard family rooms as approximately 25 m², with a double bed & bunk bed.
The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from Parc Astérix : wooden elements, natural materials & Celtic-inspired decoration, all while maintaining the comfort of a modern hotel room.

evening at the hotel

After checking in, you can simply enjoy the hotel before heading into the park the following morning.
– The Bar des Artistes is open until midnight, making it a convenient place for a drink at the end of the evening.
– The hotel’s main restaurant is La Table des Druides, which operates for dinner from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Both dinner and breakfast at La Table des Druides are available by reservation.

Breakfast with the GAULS

The following morning, we headed down for breakfast.
The buffet was, overall, adequate for a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ hotel. Nothing exceptional, but everything you’d expect for this category of accommodation was available.

Between 8:45 AM & 9:15 AM, characters were meeting hotel guests in the reception / breakfast area for photos. Panoramix & Astérix were here, taking some times & interacting with everyone : It’s a fantastic advantage of staying on-site, particularly for families !!

Early access to the park

After breakfast, it was time to head towards Parc Astérix. The park officially opened at 10:00 AM on September 23.
However, hotel guests benefited from 30 minute early access, starting at 9:30 AM. Parc Astérix officially lists this as one of the privileges included with its hotel stays.

➡️ At the time of our visit, the following attractions were accessible from 9:30 AM:
• Attention Menhir ! (4D)
• Oziris
• Toutatis
• Cétautomatix
• La Tour de Numérobis
• Chez Gyrifolix
➡️ The card handed to you provides this information, along with a 10% discount in the shops and at Aérolaf

Made with IA - Based our own card!

There is a dedicated hotel guests’ entrance. It is located separately from the main entrance & includes a dedicated security checkpoint. This means you can avoid the main entrance queues and head directly into the park.
This early access is one of the main reasons we’d recommend staying at a Parc Astérix hotel if you want to make the most of a single park day.

Parc Astérix

We entered the park at 9h45am, we started exploring the park. The weather was surprisingly warm for late September, with temperatures above 25°C. And this was definitely the day to discover the park’s water rides.
Goudurix & “La revanche des pirates” were closed for the day.
But before getting into the attractions… We need to talk about Filotomatix !

Filotomatix : think twice before buying it

We purchased the Filotomatix Or, at approximately €55 per person (online it’s cheaper : 49€).
Based on our experience that day, we would not recommend purchasing it in similar conditions.

➡️ The biggest issue was that the product did not cover several of the attractions we specifically wanted to experience, including major attractions such as:
• Toutatis
• Cétautomatix
• La Tour de Numérobis
• Discobélix

This is particularly frustrating because these are among the attractions that can make a Filotomatix purchase seem attractive in the first place.
The official Filotomatix offering is subject to a defined list of participating attractions, and the park explicitly recommends checking the restrictions before purchasing.
On top of that, wait times were already very low during our visit.
As a result, we ended up paying approximately €55 each for a service that we simply didn’t need. We also asked at the park whether a refund was possible, but our request was declined.

👉 You can buy the unlimited Filotomatix pass for €139, which grants unlimited access to 14 attractions. The attractions listed above are included with this pass, or can be purchased as a single-use option.

Our advice

👉 Check the actual wait times and the list of included attractions before purchasing any Filotomatix.
For a low-attendance day like ours, we would have been much better off without it.

Several projects were clearly visible during our visit. Among them:

🎃 HALLOWEEN : September is also an interesting time to visit because the park was in its inter-season period. Some temporary walls and construction areas were therefore present, but they didn’t significantly affect the overall experience.

🇬🇧 LONDINIUM
(Opening in 2028)
Construction was already progressing on the future Londinium area, the major new indoor land inspired by Astérix chez les Bretons. The project is scheduled for 2028 & is planned to include a major immersive roller coaster, an interactive family dark ride, a vertical play area, pub & shops. It will be beautiful!

🇬🇷 GREEK EXPANSION – (Opening in 2027)
Work was also underway in the Greek area ahead of its planned 2027 expansion, which will introduce two new family attractions (flat rides), a themed play area and a huge new restaurant “La table de Dionisos” (of 300 places) highly themed !

Attractions & CHARACTERS

With relatively low attendance, we were able to move around the park comfortably & experience many attractions throughout the day. With 25 degrees, one thing that immediately stood out was the amount of water involved in some of these rides.

➡️ Romus & Rapidus If you don’t want to get wet… Don’t sit here. We got absolutely soaked. Not slightly wet. Soaked. It’s one of those attractions where waterproof clothing can genuinely make sense depending on the weather.
➡️ For Menhir Express the amount of water depends heavily on where you sit. If you’re towards the front, expect significantly more water. If you want to stay relatively dry, choose the back.
➡️ “La Descente du Nil” is the “new” 2026 experience, previously named “oxygenarium”, it has just been rethemed into Egyptian. The attraction is a little less extreme, but we still got splashed. Combined with Romus & Rapidus and Menhir Express, it was definitely a good day to be wearing clothes that could dry quickly.
➡️ La revanche des pirates – Grand Splash was closed during our visit, to our great disappointment,
➡️ As for Épidemaïs Croisière, it is a family-friendly attraction featuring plenty of elaborate theming. The music has been changed, the original tune used to be a real earworm & much better! We believe this legendary attraction now deserves a complete overhaul to make it truly iconic, much like “it’s a small world” at Disney parks!

Beyond the attractions, one of the biggest strengths of Parc Astérix is its atmosphere. The park doesn’t try to replicate the American theme park model. It has its own identity. The humour of the comics is everywhere (in French). The Roman, Greek, Egyptian or Gaulish areas each have their own character.
And the presence of the characters in the park makes the experience feel particularly alive.

Among the many attractions, you’ll find several coasters, the most famous being Tonnerre 2 Zeus, Pégase Express, Oziris, Cétautomatix, and even Toutatis! A great way to hunt for credits for those who are interested.

➡️ The new attraction for 2025 is called Cétautomatix, it’s a spinning coaster built by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides! It’s genuinely a fantastic, beautifully themed ride. The only downside is that it’s too short. It’s not included in the Filotomatix Gold either.

➡️ Pégase Express is also a solid choice in the Greek zone. However, it definitely needs a major refresh, especially the Medusa scene, which barely works properly. The queue line could also use a good cleaning.
➡️ Toutatis is an absolute banger! Honestly one of the best attractions in the world, right up there with VelociCoaster (check out our trip report for Islands of Adventure) or Stardust Racers (see our trip report for Epic Universe) ! We love it, though it’s not included in the Filotomatix Gold either.
➡️ Opinions are mixed on the 2026 version of Tonnerre 2 Zeus. The new steel section freshly installed by RMC is incredible and very smooth. However, the old wooden section is awful in terms of ride experience, extremely rough. The transition between the two is really noticeable.

➡️ Oziris remains a top-tier coaster, super smooth, even 15 years on. What’s more, the station’s dispatch rate is handled really well, unlike the rest of the park, which still needs to work on that point.

Characters everywhere

One of the things we particularly appreciated during our visit was the number of characters walking around the park. The experience doesn’t feel limited to scheduled Meet’n’Greets.
Characters appear throughout the different themed areas. In Egypt, we encountered Cleopatra. In Rome, we met Julius Caesar & Roman characters. And the Village Gaulois was particularly lively, we encountered:

  • Astérix
  • Obélix
  • Falbala
  • Panoramix
  • Vercingétorix
  • Bonemine
  • Assurancetourix
  • Cétautomatix

This constant presence of characters gives the park a very different atmosphere from many other European theme parks. The official Parc Astérix experience also highlights encounters with characters such as Astérix, Obélix, Falbala and Panoramix in the Gaulish Village.

Shows

Because we visited during the inter-season, the entertainment offering was reduced compared with the main summer season. Main basse sur la Joconde was not operating during our visit. The show offering at the Théâtre de Panoramix was also reduced. Les Plongeons de l’Olympe + The parade were the only shows available during our visit.

As show schedules vary according to the season and attendance, Parc Astérix recommends checking the official app or the information boards on the day of your visit.

Our verdict

✅ After spending a full day at Parc Astérix, one thing is clear: The destination is evolving very quickly.
Between the new Egyptian developments, the upcoming Greek expansion, the massive Londinium project and the construction of L’Odyssée, there is a lot happening !! And that is perhaps the most exciting part, Parc Astérix is no longer simply a great French theme park for a day out. It is increasingly becoming a full theme park resort destination, with hotels, immersive environments, increasingly ambitious attractions and a growing entertainment offering!

❌ Our visit also highlighted a few limitations: The closed attractions was frustrating, particularly Goudurix or La Revanche des Pirates, and the reduced entertainment schedule was noticeable during the inter-season.
Parc Astérix still needs to invest to boost quality, particularly regarding immersion, which hasn’t been taken far enough, same for ride refurbishments. Staff operations could also be improve, even though the quality of the staff at our hotel was appreciated! Based on our experience that day, Filotomatix Or was simply not worth the €55 per person, especially with the low wait times and the attractions excluded from the product.

But these points don’t overshadow what was otherwise a very enjoyable visit. The park is clearly investing heavily in its future. And judging by what we saw on site… The next few years are going to be very interesting for Parc Astérix.

DLP Works Tips

💡 Stay on-site if you can. The three existing hotels (soon 4) provide direct access to the park and 30-minute early access to selected attractions, which can make a major difference during busier days.
💡 Electric car? Charging at the hotel parking area is free, making the on-site hotels particularly convenient for EV owners.
💡 Book your breakfast slot, but don’t worry if your plans change. Your time can be adjusted directly with reception.
💡 Meet the characters at the hotel. The morning character appearances are an easy way to get photos before entering the park.
💡 Think twice before buying Filotomatix Or. Check the participating attractions and the expected wait times for your specific date before purchasing.
💡 Visiting during the inter-season? Check the entertainment schedule carefully. Some shows may not operate on weekdays or outside the main season.
💡 Prepare for the water rides! Romus & Rapidus can get you very wet, while Menhir Express is particularly wet towards the front.
